Biography ~

With at least four generations of artists and avid horsemen in Julie Scott's family, one could say she windmillinherited her career. Julie started drawing at the age of four, and began teaching herself how to paint with oils when she was ten years old. As a child, Julie Scott used only the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and white. She says, "It began merely as an exercise inspired by my Mom to learn the color wheel, but has become the basis for how I mix my colors today."

In high school, Julie Scott was able to take several formal art classes, and went on to major in art at college. Frustrated by the pressure from the academic world to produce modern art, she transferred after two years.

genealogyWhile developing her talents as an artist, Julie Scott also spent a great deal of time cultivating her skills as an equestrian. With the decision to put art on the back burner, her time was now devoted to her other life-long passion. Julie ulitmately graduated with a B.A. in Equine Studies.

Since graduation, Julie Scott has once again picked up her paint brushes and jasmine is now a successful artist with her faithful assistant always nearby.

Technique ~

The inspirations for my ideas come from a combination of personal photographs and books. Using the pictures as a reference and a brief pencil outline on the canvas, I then blend together a portrayal of what I see in the world around me through a simplistic style of painting that has often been described as peaceful.

Artist Statement ~

At its core, all art is a reflection and an interpretive vision of the period in which it was created. The world to one age is not the same world to another. There are the obvious changes in building and dress, but also the more subtle shifts in the way man views and thinks about the world.

daylilyAs a realistic painter, I attempt to hold a mirror up to nature and reflect a single moment in time. My intent is to draw attention to those details that are often overlooked because there is not time... and to see takes time.

I consider it a privilege to use the natural talent God has given me to create artwork that blesses other people.
